Relationships between the buy- and sell-side are evolving, with roles and responsibilities changing to accommodate new workflow behaviours.
RFQ has cemented itself as a central method of execution in fixed income in recent years in light of the advent of electronic trading and the move away from bilateral voice trading and onto platforms. What has your journey to the trading desk been like? I’ve always worked in the asset management industry, starting my first job at 18 with Scottish Amicable InvestmentManagement in Glasgow. From the banking team at Scot Asset Management, I moved firms in 1999 to take up a role in trade settlements.
As part of the new system-wide exploratory scenario (SWES) exercise, participants including major banks, hedge funds, asset managers and pension funds will be asked to evaluate the impact of “severe but plausible” stress including what actions they might individually take in that scenario, with a focus on the UK markets.
The immediate focus for the business is set to be investing in client service and portfoliomanagement, specifically hiring in senior sales and distribution team members focused on Europe and the UK, as well as investmentmanagers for both the luxury brands and credit opportunities strategies.
